Windows Explorer makes it quite easy to browse through files, unless you have to copy or move files, from one place to another, on a daily basis. In this kind of situations, third party file managers, like Total Commander or others, can make your work easier, with their dual-panel interfaces. Q-Dir takes a step forward and offers a quad-panel interface. You can explore four different folders in parallel, click and drag files from one location to another and much more.

Q-Dir is distributed as a freeware application. It offers support for numerous Windows platforms, from Win 98 to Win 7 and it can be installed in a few moments. You can also use it on various Server editions. The application is lightweight, so you won't notice a significant impact on your computer's performance.

Q-Dir looks and feels like Total Commander or other similar applications, but its user interface consists of four panels, instead of two. You can browse through local or network folders on each panel independently and move or copy your files by clicking the appropriate options, located on each panel or you can just drag and drop the files from one panel to another.

It is also possible to create navigation tabs on each panel. This gives you the possibility of opening several folders on the same panel. Furthermore, tabs can be duplicated and copied to other panels by clicking and dragging them. You can find other tools on the panels, which make it easier to navigate to a folder on the hard drive. By default, each panel takes up a quarter of the interface, but you can choose other layouts, by clicking a series of buttons, located on a toolbar. You can choose to display two or three panels, vertically or horizontally and so on.

The application comes with other useful features as well. You can open blank Notepad documents or open a file in Notepad, bring up the command prompt, export file and folder lists and much more.

Pros

Q-Dir allows you to work with your files and folders on four panels, on which you can open several folders, on separate tabs. It allows you to perform various operations fast and easy. You can also switch between various layouts on the main user interface.

Cons

There are no serious issues to mention. When it comes to managing files quickly and comfortably, there are very few applications on the market that can match Q-Dir's flexibility.
